The oldest depiction of the Saint Christopher Church is found on a plan of the Willebroek Canal from 1565. In 1582, the church and the castle were destroyed by fire. The Spaniards flattened many buildings that belonged to William of Orange. The Silent One was also lord of Grimbergen and lord of Londerzeel. The church would catch fire again, the last time in 1855. The new church was built in phases. It is made of sandstone, has three naves, and features a vault from 1858. In 1898, a new tower was erected after the upper belfry openings were demolished. The tower was already damaged in 1730 and rebuilt in 1736. A tornado destroyed the tower in 1990, as well as the Heidemolen of Malderen. Both were rebuilt. The church possesses several treasures: a 15th-century polychrome stone statue of Christopher and vestments from around 1530, adorned with embroidered scenes from the life of Christ. The choir stalls and altars date from around 1875, and the large statue of Christopher is from 1841-1860. The pulpit dates from 1651-1700. It is a modest baroque piece of furniture, supported by angels at the soundboard, while personifications of Faith, Hope, and Love support the pulpit. The exterior wall of the sacristy contains the gravestone of Engelbert van Doetinghem (1643), lord of Asschrijhane.
