The building is located just in front of the existing building De Wissen, right by the dike. It is a true eye-catcher that can be seen from afar on the cycling route network and attracts people to this exceptional area. From this main entrance, you can get acquainted with the nearby nature reserve Negenoord-Kerkeweerd, the tourist offerings in the city, and in the wider area of the cross-border RiverPark Maasvallei (from Kessenich to Maastricht).
Expo Maasvallei: theme fauna & flora
The expo can be visited for free during the opening hours of the Visitor Center.
On the first floor of the Visitor Center, a unique expo takes you through the story of the Maas, the wild river that connects eleven municipalities in Belgian and Dutch Limburg. No boring museum visit here but an active and educational experience where the relationship with the present nature reserve and the broader landscape is central. The aim is to give visitors a first impression and encourage them to explore the rest of the area.
The expo consists of:
A viewing cabinet: with objects from the Negenoord-Kerkeweerd nature reserve.
Expert videos: listen to the stories from various experts in the fields of water quality, river widening, nature and landscape, large grazers…
Drone flight over the Maas: view the entire RiverPark Maasvallei from the air! Breathtaking images if you ask us…
Various viewing and feeding boxes to get up close and personal with nature
On the top floor, you can enjoy an observation platform with a panoramic view of
the Negenoord-Kerkeweerd nature reserve.
From this special viewpoint, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the cross-border RiverPark Maasvallei/nature reserve Negenoord-Kerkeweerd.
