Luc De Man 's sculpture along the Scheldt dike is part of his famous international series called 'Cubes' .
Unlike its metal constructions, this stone block almost invites you to touch it. The hollow space seems to offer a kind of security within the clean lines of the cube.
Luc De Man often plays with the concepts of "emptiness" and "mass" in his work. By cutting away a portion of the cube (a quarter sphere), he reveals the interior of the material. The hollowing suggests something is missing, but simultaneously creates a new space.
It is a beautiful, tactile sculpture that fits the stone architecture of the Red Hill much better than a metal structure.
