Eupen

Eupen is often described as a hyphen between two cultures, "city of unlimited shopping and unlimited food lovers." The shopkeepers are flexible, friendly, and multilingual. Take your time and stroll through the shopping streets, discover the protected buildings that remind of the history of this old cloth city, or enjoy the street performances that create a unique atmosphere on weekends. But there's more, such as the gastronomy that is known far beyond the region for its diverse and high-quality offerings. The numerous restaurants provide the discerning eater with refined haute cuisine as well as various delicious regional dishes. The snack bars are there for a quick bite.
When you are at the Marktplatz in the center of Eupen, also pay attention to the different patrician houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the town hall and the old monastery church featuring paintings from the 16th century. The Sankt Niklauskirche from 1721, with its two towers and church furnishings in Baroque and Rococo styles, also stands in the market square and is well worth a look.
Eupen is located in the transition area between the meadows and bushes of the Land of Herve and the wooded hills of the Hertogenwald. Eupen is also the seat of the East Cantons, which comprises 9 Belgian municipalities located on the 'roof of Belgium' and uses German as its national language.
The East Cantons are very rich in landscape, in the north you see meadows and fields, while in the vicinity of Eupen, there are hilly areas characterized by peat bogs and the extensive Hertogenwald. South of the peat plateau, you enter a spur of the German Eifel with alternating forests, meadows, and hedgerow landscapes.
