Hilly bike ride that quickly heads southwest into Wallonia right from the start in Tienen.
After cycling 26 km, one can take a rest at the picturesque market square in the center of Grez-Dociau, either at the Taverne le Saint-Georges or at Le Sphinx.
From Grez-Dociau, one needs to make a fairly steep climb (4% - 1.4 km) to the Walloon village of Bossut-Gottechain.
Then descending back down to Hamme-Mille, nicely located in the valley of La Nethen, a tributary of the Dijle.
Then climbing back up to the Meerdaalwoud, just south of Leuven.
One is then back in Flanders where one must cycle a bit further east to Bierbeek.
In Bierbeek, one can rest again with a drink and/or a snack at the brown tavern In de Molen in the shade of the church.
After that, there are a few more hills to climb to reach the sugar city of Tienen.
And then one has 60 kilometers on the odometer and 534 meters of elevation in the legs.
On the route, there are some unpaved, cobblestone, and gravel sections, totaling about 6 km long (see road types in the appendix).
