This Meetjesland Café Route of 5 km starts at the iconic green square in front of the town hall and allows you to enjoy beautiful village views via the old railway bed and narrow paths between the fields. From the terrace of Café Den Hippoliet, you overlook the entire historical square that played a very important role as a trade center for the famous cloth in medieval Flanders, for which trading ships from Italy and the northern Hanseatic cities sailed to our coasts. Kaprijke was then a city, and you can see that in the 16th-century town hall, but also the square and the Voorstraat (a former common) is a relic of this period. Bo from Den Hippoliet welcomes you with open arms.
