Edegemsebeek valley and Vuile Plas

The Edegem stream valley is the open landscape area between Edegem and Kontich. It forms the last east-west connection in the southern edge of Antwerp along which deer still migrate. Natuurpunt wants to safeguard this corridor and restore its previous biodiversity. On 24 November 2019, Natuurpunt carried out the largest Flemish forest planting campaign here (Bos voor Iedereen actie): more than 15000 trees and shrubs on 6 ha with more than 1000 local residents and volunteers. The area is open as a walking area. Small landscape elements characterize the area: the Potsdijk oak drive, a wadi with large cattails, pollard trees, pools and ditches, wet roughs and blackberry domes. Forests, meadows, stream banks and wood edges offer ample space for nature observation and enjoy this stream valley.

The Dirty PLas is an unprecedented area for many, so come and be surprised!

This area was created during the construction of the E19 because at that location the E19 would connect to the Great Ring around Antwerp. Because that Ring did not happen, the sandy plain has evolved into a varied terrain with shallow puddles, birch groves and open sand pieces. Based on an inventory of valuable birds, mammals, insects and plants, it appears that this site has developed into a valuable nature reserve and, according to some, the most beautiful of the Antwerp Southern Edge.
