Rural walking in the Zuidrand of Antwerp

Attention: between May 1 and August 10, the Owl Forest is partially closed. You will follow the blue nature walk from km 6. This shortens the route by about 1 km.

The walk starts at Kontich station but can also be started anywhere along the route. It can be extended by 2.5 km if you take the bike path right after the railway crossing (after 4 km) for 1 km and then turn left to complete the loop through the Marpingen forest. For this longer version, there is a section of 1 km along the bike path, which may be bothersome. The section through the forest makes up for this; then you are also set for about 6 km through nature, including a crossing through a meadow. This part is well "secured" by the people from Natuurpunt against mountain bikes, so you won't be bothered by them.

A varied walk with a piece of urbanized ugly Flanders at the beginning and end, the walk through open spaces more than makes up for this.
