This loop-like walk of about 8.3 kilometers is a fun way to experience both the Gileppe and the prairie landscape. Where many walks in this region only pass through the forest or only the prairie landscape, we have the beauty of both worlds here.
From the watchtower of the dam, we go into the forest. At first you are embarrassed because we have to cross a busy road, but once that happened, we left for quiet roads. At first, the forest consists mainly of deciduous trees of tall beech trees and oaks. Sometimes we have an open road where, in June, the flowers are present en masse and very different in color and species. Later, we find ourselves in spruce forests, sometimes dark and dense, sometimes light and with an undergrowth of blueberries and eagle ferns. The roads vary from wide, flat and easily accessible to narrow paths that can be a bit bumpy. This is definitely not a walk for strollers or wheelchairs. The site is sometimes interspersed with streams. In this case, you have to make a short steep descent and an equally short and steep climb.
Once out of the forest, we cross a beautiful landscape of hedges and meadows. Here, too, the floral splendor in June is overwhelming. Only occasionally we pass a farm with orchard and vegetable garden. The panoramas are fascinating. Near the arboretum of Coingsoux, we pass almost unnoticed on the underground aqueduct. Here we have a beautiful view of the towers of the church of Limburg and Goé. We also pass the famous Corman dairy.
In addition to the impressive Gileppe dam, here we see interesting historical or human elements: the idyllic Borchêne dam, the former hotel "au Lion" where adulterers met and an abandoned quarry, now a concrete factory with the first woman concrete specialist in the region.
Road conditions
Although the roads are passable in summer, it remains a forest with slopes and will be slippery and muddy in some places during rain showers.
You cross the road of the Gileppe quite busy twice, at the beginning and at the end of the walk. Watch it!
Restoration
Catering can be found either in the restaurant 'au Lion' or at the dam. In addition, we only have several picnic areas. We have indicated the banks we meet as "attraction".
