You can reach the start by train via Liège, Verviers to Spa. A small line connects Spa with Pepinster. Even on Sundays, a train runs back and forth every hour.
This train hike is 22km long and follows the GR 573 almost entirely, except for a 200-meter stretch in Spa. The route is full of variety: from Ardennes coniferous forests in steep river valleys to the rolling meadows of the Condroz. Along the way, you cross unremarkable hamlets, and the ruins of the Franchimont castle serve as a good landmark in the distance. Beautiful views and occasionally a paved kilometer. The finale is a very enjoyable descent to the Vesder. When you cross the river in Pepinster, you can still see the deep scars from the floods. Near the station, you'll find a small café with a terrace.
