Walk Wijnegem Green Cross

Province of Antwerp and GruunRant vzw collaborated to create seven loop-shaped walking routes. More info and detailed route descriptions with plenty of trivia at gruunrant.org/wandelroutes and provincieantwerpen.be/GroenKruis.

The varied walk takes you through Wijnegem, Wommelgem, Deurne, and Schoten. The terrain is also a colorful mix of paved and unpaved, with a few potentially muddy patches.

You encounter ancient castle parks, pass through large open spaces with professional agriculture and ecologically valuable raised fields, walk along beautifully meandering waterways, public parks, and hidden natural spots. You walk, among other places, in the park of Wijnegem, where you can find a centuries-old lime tree, the Municipal Park of Schoten, and the Wijtschot, which mainly consists of young forest, with oaks, limes, and other native tree species. The many berry bushes create a feast for many birds. Here and there, you also cross busier, built-up areas.
