‘Polygon Wood’ takes you to Polygon Wood. Along the way

you will discover not only the natural beauty, but

also the many silent witnesses of the First World War

in the landscape.

The southern walking route leads towards Polygon Wood and the former battlefield near Beselare. Polygon Wood has earned a special place in the war story and has been reclaimed four times over the troops present there. In addition to the small CWGC Polygon Wood Cemetery, you will also find CWGC Buttes New British Cemetery where mainly Australian and New Zealand soldiers found their final resting place. Characteristic of the site is the Australian monument on the target hill from which you have a beautiful view of the cemetery and the surroundings. The New Zealand Missing Memorial, inspired by the classical Greek temple, also characterizes the cemetery. The landscape is particularly pleasant for walking. Especially the idyllic Polygonbeek valley and Polygon Wood make you feel like you are in another region due to its atypical vistas and variation in vegetation.
