Discover a child-friendly walk with an aviation theme between the Nossegem station, Kersenberg, and the play forest Vliegbos!

Start your adventure towards the Nossegem station, where you can easily reach by train from Leuven or Brussels. The 4.5 km walking route starts from the station and takes you through a rural green landscape, right next to the 'Brussels Airport'.

After walking a kilometer, you arrive at the Kersenberg, where play equipment perfectly fits the aviation theme. The children can enjoy the play equipment while you occasionally see an airplane passing by in the sky.

After exploring the Kersenberg, continue your route to the play forest Vliegbos. Although this forest has fewer play equipment, it still offers a wonderful environment to enjoy nature and spot airplanes. As you walk through the forest, you can look together at the airplanes passing overhead, with info panels at the spotting place 01/19 displaying different types of airplanes.

After having a great time in the play forest Vliegbos, it's time to return to the station. This thematic walk between the Nossegem station, Kersenberg, and play forest Vliegbos offers a combination of nature, aviation, and the opportunity to spot airplanes. It is a great chance to spend quality time with your family and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, accompanied by the exciting sound and sight of passing airplanes.

Attractions along the way:

Nossegem, a district of Zaventem, is located south of the national airport 'Brussels Airport', in the landscape region of Brabantse Kouters. The village probably originated from a Frankish court complex from the 4th-5th century and was first mentioned around 1110.

Sint-Lambertuskerk or the three-nave village church of Nossegem in Gothic and classicist style dedicated to Lambertus of Maastricht. This church has original parts from the 13th-14th century with a statue of Saint Lambertus from the 16th century.

Pastorate of the Sint-Lambertus Parish was probably built around 1640 in local sandstone. The year 1761 above the door is said to refer to the year the pastorate took on its current appearance, as the surrounding garden was built around 1742.

Kersenberg is a nature play area in the center of Nossegem. This green oasis with a playground, obstacle course, dog meadow, and flower meadow was established in 2021.

Brussels Airport is an international airport and serves as our national airport of Belgium. With an area of about 1245ha, it is the largest airport in our country. Located in Flemish Brabant in Zaventem, Machelen, and Steenokkerzeel, approximately 12 km from the capital.

Our Lady Chapel is a small field chapel from 1871 hidden behind some trees and bushes.

Play forest Vliegbos is a joint initiative of Brussels Airport, the municipal council of Zaventem, the province of Flemish Brabant, and the Agency for Nature and Forest. This forest with a permanent walking loop, a dog meadow, a picnic area, and some playground equipment for children was opened in 2017.

Spotting platform 01/19, located at the edge of play forest Vliegbos - is one of the two platforms that offer a beautiful view of the runways. The second platform 25L/07R is harder to reach on foot, but can be accessed additionally by car.
