Grandcourt

The extreme south of the province of Luxembourg is a remarkable region. The western part belongs to the Pays de Gaum, the eastern part to the Pays d'Arlon. On the border are villages such as Grandcourt, Ruette and Saint-Remy. The past of the region is indissolubly linked to the iron and steel industry, because the foundations of the woods contained iron ore. In the past, the south-facing hills were covered with vineyards and Grandvourt was renowned for its apple, pear and prume orchards.

TYPE OF ROAD
You follow exclusively paved or practically paved (asphalt) roads. Especially the second half has hills too steep for strollers or wheelchairs. The differences in altitude are important. An example: the small village of Saint-Remy is located about 240 m above sea level. The French border – a good kilometre further – is already 100 m higher. It's not an escalation to break your neck, but your heart rate will definitely increase.

MARKUP
The second half of the route is marked with the yellow-white lines of the Gaume trail, but already before Saint-Remy you will see lying green rectangles that brighten up your route. As for the rest, you have to make do with signposts and street signs.

You can park around the simple church. Its rectangular tower hardly exceeds the surrounding houses. On the southern façade (where the entrance door is located) stands a magnificent old Gaumais cross.
