Gentbrugse Meersen with its 270 hectares is one of the four green poles, large park and nature reserves, on the territory of Ghent that emphasize nature and recreation: sports, children's games, picnics. Already during the Ice Age, 800 years before Christ, there was already movement here and the first four centuries after Christ the Romans were visiting. Around 1970, the nature reserve was cut in half by the E17 with adverse consequences for nature in a flood area of the Scheldt. Today, a balance between man and nature is sought through Natuurpunt Gent and the City of Ghent. We leave at 'Toegang Koningsdonk' this is the southern part of the Meersen with paths around the castle Coninsdonk, through the play forest, past the watchtower 'het Vredesmonument', a lookout hill and many places where a native forest has been planted. Parking at the intersection Koningsdonkstraat and Heusdenbaan (gps Melle, near house number 79) side street near Heusdenbrug (also N447/Heusdenbaan). All paths are accessible to dogs also in the grazing areas of the cows. There is an intersection in the route, just follow it straight ahead.
