Description by the author

A 13km loop trail offered and signposted by the Walking Club de Vreugdestappers VZW during the Spring Walks in Moorsel on 19/03/2023.

After leaving the villa neighborhood in Moorsel, we walk towards Hoogbos. A misleading name, because we are here at the lowest part of the forest. Soon space will be made for the connection of the new bike highway towards Bertem.
We leave the forest under the bridge of the E40 with its daily "traffic jam on the E40 in Everberg".
The neighborhood Armendaal was established in the late 1960s. Via a beautiful sunken path, we walk towards Everberg. A gravel path next to the ziptbeek leads us to Lodderhoekstraat with the impressive villa de la Kethulle, now owned by the Colruyt family.
After enjoying a snack and a drink at the rest stop, specially arranged in the Parish Hall of Everberg for the occasion, we take footpath 24 and neighborhood path 19. The kruisborrekapel was built on top of a "borre" or rainwater pit, still visible at the back of the chapel.
We now have a view of the 15-meter high Mierenberg. An impressive witness hill of iron sandstone formed during the Diestian when this area lay on the sea bed. We continue our way through a winding sunken path upwards. On the right side used to be the selection center for military officers. Now the youth prison is housed there.
Neighborhood path 4 brings us to the plateau. On clear days, we can see the Sint-Romboutstoren in Mechelen from here. We cross the highway and head towards Vrebos – a hamlet of Everberg. We find ourselves on a plateau – over 100m above sea level – with a view of Bertem and Leefdaal.
Via the narrow footpath 20 we return to Moorsel.

Beautiful, varied walk with a piece of villa neighborhood, village center, forest and field, vistas, … In wet weather, mud may sometimes appear here and there…
