Coal walk

This walk is entirely dedicated to the coal that was mined here from the end of the sixteenth century until 1963. The path winds its way over the former mining area and through the coal hills, which are still more or less visible. The most interesting places along the route are located on the right bank of the Vesdre, at the edge of the geological basin of the Land of Herve, from where many miners came. The hill of "Basse-Ransy" is ideally located at the crossroads of several geographical regions (360° orientation table): the following three river valleys are visible: Vesdre, Ourthe, and Meuse) and four geographical regions (plateau of Herve, first summit of the Liège Ardennes, first summit of the Condroz, and the plateau of Haspengouw). The spoil tip is right next to the GR 412. Here, you can enjoy beautiful landscapes that are especially worth discovering in winter, as the trees then lose their leaves which can obstruct the view.
