NISMES - A completely different environment

Who would think that one can explore southern pathways in Wallonia? This astonishing walk takes you to the ‘Pays des Eaux Vives’, the land of the fast-flowing waters. Welcome to the South, in Nismes... Here, the sun warms the limestone soil, allowing a lush flora to develop. The ‘Bois de la Tienne aux Pauquîs’ and its pines somewhat resemble the ‘garrigue’, that typically Provençal landscape. Beyond Dourbes, you follow the valley of the Viroin. The river is extraordinarily clear. Along the banks, alders alternate with clearings covered in grass. You walk through a bright forest. At the panorama of the ‘Roche aux Faucons’, with a bit of luck, you may catch a glimpse of the old steam train of the 3 Valleys puffing by. The view looks like a postcard. As you approach Nismes, you discover the surprising site of the ‘Fondry des Chiens’. This natural abyss also marks the endpoint of the walk. During this walk, you follow paths of the road to Compostela.
