Virelles – In the Kingdom of the Birds

How lush nature appears around Chimay! Along the route, your steps are accompanied by the countless songs of birds, while the landscape adorns itself with vast ponds. As soon as one moves away from Virelles, one sees how the wet areas extend up to the large forests: two environments that allow the winged fauna to live in tranquility. On the paths through the large forests of Chimay, you set foot on limestone ground with a very diverse flora. In the second loop, the walk takes you to ‘La Filature’, where there was an iron smelter in the 19th century, at the entrance of the village of Lompret. Via a pleasant path, you reach the lower part of the hamlet of Vaulx, a magical place where the Eau Blanche lazily meanders through the meadows. Streams, clearings in the forests, and mixed woods provide biodiversity in the valley.
