Viroinval: Ry d'Alise

The typical village of Oignies-en-Thiérache is located in a beautiful clearing in the deep woods of the foothills of the Ardennes. This walk begins at the edge of the forest and then follows the unknown and steep paths of the Viroin-Hermeton nature park.
During this journey, you will be immersed in the forest, far away from the beaten tracks. From the high plateau of Oignies-en-Thiérache, the village of the slate quarries, you can see the church of Le Mesnil in the distance among the pine trees. At the spot known as 'Risque tout', you reach the Meuse valley. The river flows into France here.
The path along the ridge offers a magnificent view of the valley and the French villages. On this route, you will encounter several boundary markers. After all, you are walking along the French border.
In the steep area – characterized by slate – you must overcome significant elevation changes. The descent into the deep valley of the Ry d'Alise offers a breathtaking view of the valleys of the Ardennes.
