Walk along the Ourthe

Follow the right bank of the Ourthe river towards the hamlet of Xhignesse, where you can admire the Romanesque St. Peter's Church. It is classified as an important heritage site of Wallonia. Close by is the so-called Tombeu hill, an ancient Merovingian burial site that was discovered in the late sixties. Descend into the forest down to the river, near Les Rochers de la Vierge. The rocks owe their name to the statue of Mary situated halfway up the impressive limestone rock mass (the rocks stand upright like slices of bread, hence called ‘tartines’ in French). Cross the bridge and follow the river again, then cross the campsite. Continue walking to the village of Fairon. Here you can optionally make an extra loop of 5.4 km towards Bloquay and the forests of Comblain. Otherwise, just continue following the Ourthe back to the starting point.
