The Vecquée

The route starts from the church square and takes you to the highest point of the municipality of Stoumont. You begin immediately with a climb where you walk through the beautiful hamlets of Roua and Monthouet. Along the way, you will discover the Cross of Honnay, which was said to have been placed here by a traveler who was lost in the snow. There is also the Pyramid, which according to legend was an observation post for Caesar's army. The "Vecquée" is a wide firebreak located at the top of the slope. This is the old Roman road that the prince-bishops used in medieval times to travel from Liège to the abbey of Stavelot. It still marks the boundary between the municipalities of Theux and Stoumont today. To come back down, you follow the Pansîres nature reserve, crossing through forests and meadows, and encounter the Stone Horse, a block of quartzite that looks like a lying horse.
