Around Forêt

The walk starts at the site of the Fenderie, a silent witness to the former metallurgy industry in the valley (rolling mill, castle, and steam hammer). The path climbs through the Massouheid reserve and passes by the foot of a remarkable lime tree, then leads to the square of Forêt-Village, where the beautiful classified Saint-Catherine Church stands (with information board). Not far from there is a monument that refers to the Tragédie de Forêt of 1944, in which many resistance fighters lost their lives. The walk leaves the village again near an excavation site. Here you can optionally choose an extra loop along the caves of Walou and Fonds de Forêt. Along that path, you will get a beautiful view of the zinc-rich grassland of the La Rochette nature reserve (you can also extend the walk here if you wish). At the bend of Belle-Vue, you look out over the valley and the former metal industry of Prayon. From the main road, the walk continues along Rue Navette towards the forest (view), to lead back to the castle of La Fenderie (walk n°1).
