This short, very easy walk gently climbs towards the intermediate plateau of the spoil heap, where you unexpectedly come face to face with a former settling pond that is now growing reeds. It dates back to the 1990s when the spoil heap was mined for its residual coal. You can freely explore the "dry grasslands" in search of wildflowers and rare insects. The path then gradually rises to the top of the spoil heap, from which you have a fantastic view of the series of spoil heaps and the iron and steel factories of Marchienne-au-Pont and Marcinelle. The route ends with a nice loop around the settling pond where various viewpoints of the surroundings are revealed. This walk is perfectly suitable for families. Photographers get the best lighting conditions in the afternoon. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.
