The village of Virelles in the valley of the Eau Blanche has a history that is closely linked to the river. Up to Vaulx, you follow charming paths that take you deeper into the Blaimont forest. Due to the schistous nature of the soil, the Virelles forest mainly consists of deciduous trees such as oaks and beeches. "Le Trou des Sarrazins" is a gorge that was formed millions of years ago and was already present in the Neolithic period. During that time, the water deposited rock with iron ore there. The mineral was called “le Sarrazin” by the inhabitants of Virelles and supplied the village’s forges. Iron ore extraction was halted in the 18th century.
