The UNESCO bike route - From Tournai to Mons

The starting signal for this UNESCO bike route is given at the foot of the beautiful medieval cathedral of Tournai. In the city of Clovis, history was made. Just a few kilometers after leaving the city, you find yourself in the countryside. Through the junction network, you reach the Scheldt and the marina of Péronnes. In days long past, flatboats were built and repaired here. Along the RAVeL trail beside the Nimy-Blaton-Péronnes canal, you are immersed in the world of the bargemen. Through another canal, that of Condé-Pommeroeul, you arrive in the Borinage. This region experienced a period of economic prosperity from the early 19th century, even though the working conditions in the mines were inhumane. Vincent Van Gogh, who lived here for almost 2 years, found artistic inspiration. Between Thulin and Boussu, you cross the countryside before arriving at Grand-Hornu. This former mining complex - UNESCO World Heritage - is a silent witness to the beginning of the industrial revolution. You continue your route along a quiet green bike path.
