Traveling without a car - From Aarlen to Libramont

Between Gaume, lakes, and forests
We present you a stay without a car in the province of Luxembourg, the largest in the kingdom, but at the same time the least populated. It is also the greenest province in Belgium, with 96% of its territory covered by forests and agricultural lands!
You start your journey in Arlon, the capital of the province. The city has a history of over 2000 years and is among the three oldest in Belgium. This privileged location is due to its strategic position at the crossroads of two important Roman roads: the road from Reims to Trier and that from Metz to Tongeren. Today, its identity is confirmed by the presence of the Archaeological Museum, the discovery of two Roman towers (Neptune and Jupiter), and the annual organization of a Gallo-Roman weekend.
After taking the train from Arlon to Marbehan, you will discover Gaume, a region known for its sausage and pâté gaumais, its rolling landscapes, and its yellow stones. Belgian Lorraine is bordered to the north by the Ardennes, to the east by the land of Arlon, to the south by French Lorraine, and to the west by the French region of Champagne-Ardenne. This small piece of Belgium is also characterized by its distinctly southern appearance.
Then, you head towards Neufchâteau and its surroundings, on the edge of the Anlier Forest, which, with its 7,000 hectares, forms the largest beech forest in Belgium. This region is a true nature destination for all kinds of hikers. The lake of Neufchâteau is a lovely relaxation spot in untouched nature. Next, you travel to Libramont, which owes its international fame to its agricultural fair. This takes place during the last weekend of July and attracts more than 160,000 visitors. Libramont is also known for a modern center, 28 typical Ardennes villages and hamlets, landscapes stretching to the horizon, and forests… The Sûre, the Vierre, the Lesse, the Lomme, and the western Ourthe all have their source there. There is certainly no shortage of waterways!
