"That nice folk": Tremelo between church and Laak.

'Nice' stands for knife pullers, 'totsenrapers', secret stokers, and 'zjendermen', but also for Saint Damien. We leave in the village bowl where the most important sights are located in a huddle. The church, presbytery and chapel, all in honour of a young Our Lady of Assistance, the former town hall, fascinating example of the reconstruction after the First World War, are all pushed aside a bit by the modern town hall.

But above all we enjoy the valley of the Laak, an exceptional and quiet nature reserve where the loach is at home and the municipal poet has scattered his verses around. The ferry house ''t Schipken' reminds us not only of a flourishing shipping but also that the inhabitants of the then hamlet of Tremelo went to Werchter for centuries for their earthly and religious duties.

Parking facilities
It is best to park at the starting point of the route. There are no car parks along the route. Those who park on Damiaanplein, hilstraat or Schrieksebaan must place their parking disc (3 hours free parking). No parking disc is required at the Vinneweg car park.

Walking shoes are recommended, especially in wet weather. The central part of the area may be flooded during long winter rains.
