The walking route starts from the beautiful white town of Thorn from the car park just outside the built-up area (day ticket parking: 3 Euro (February 2023)). You first walk along the Witbeek and you continue your way along Maasplas Grote Heg. On the border of the Netherlands with Belgium, you enter the Koningssteen-Kollegreend nature reserve: a nature reserve developed around former gravel extractions and now grazed by, among others, Konik horses and Galloway cattle. The beaver is also active there. The forests that spontaneously arose along the lakes are ewe forests. The extreme eastern part of this nature reserve is a strolling area, so you can deviate from the paths here. Parts of the nature reserve are soggy, on some parts there are planks to prevent wet feet. Then you walk through meadow grassland area Boterakker (note: the hiking trail through Boterakker is closed during the breeding season, you then have to shorten the walk by walking directly to Kessenich (the walk will then be 11 km)).

The route then goes through Kessenich (B), you briefly climb the motte of Kessenich, and north of Kessenich you walk along and through nature reserve Vijverbroek: an alder forest (part of this area can be really soggy here). There is also a bat path. Just across the border, back in the Netherlands, you walk along the Itterbeek to Thorn and then through beautiful Thorn back to the parking lot.
