The connection between Ghent and water is unmistakable. The city originated at the confluence of Lys and Scheldt and once had 26 islands and 106 bridges. Stroll along the water and discover the beauty of the city. On this walk you will pass the picturesque ruins of the Saint Bavo Abbey, opposite the confluence of Lys and Scheldt. Furthermore, you largely stroll along the Leie, the Lievekanaal, which used to connect Ghent and Bruges, and the Nederschelde, with narrow tragels (towpaths). You pass the atmospheric Prinsenhof, a piece of the old city, the many green resting points. Stroll along quiet waters, dream away on the quays of the old port and get lost in the centuries-old streets. Let it be a voyage of discovery along well-known and especially less well-known corners of Ghent.
