Description by the author

The Unesco World Heritage Committee decided on July 24, 2021 to add 'The great spas of Europe' to the World Heritage List. The new registration also includes the city of Spa.

With this walk we aim to explore the south-western part of Spa (Creppe, Winamplanche), combined with a visit to the pearl of the Ardennes itself.

By starting in Creppe and having lunch in Spa, this can be made into a great day trip !

Start near the church of Creppe.

We go into the woods to avoid the asphalt road. Since the Domaine de Lebiole is private, we unfortunately cannot go further into the forest. We descend to Winamplanche. A tragedy took place here on Sunday, September 10, 1944 , when the inhabitants thought that the Germans had left and began to celebrate, much to the fury of the Germans who set 40 fires ... We go as far as the memorial in front of the church.

We ascend up to the R. Haftay where a memorial plaque reminds us of the crashed facteur. A bench lets us enjoy the beautiful view of the valley of the eau rouge. Through a beautiful landscape, we descend to the main road to Theux.

Here starts an ascent to the northern hill of Spa. Once at the top, we pass the Pavillon Felix Bernard to finally descend to Spa. After a detour to the Champignon de Grunne we arrive in the parc des 7 heures with many sights.

We discover why Spa is called the capital of water: with all springs, fountains and old baths, water is everywhere. The grandeur of Spa as a city of relaxation and pleasure is reflected everywhere in the stately buildings, the Casino and also the quality establishments.

We leave the city along the Place du Monument and a little further on we pass the oldest monument in the city. It is now a constant climb to the end point ... We pass the stately homes of the suburbs and come again in nature. Almost at the top, a rest area allows us to enjoy the valley of the Ruisseau du vieux Spa for a while, before we return to the starting point.

Be sure to also consult the information about the sights once you are there . They explain what you get to see!
