South of Booischot, there used to be a wooded area known as the "Papelheyde". During the Spanish period, a defensive line of 4 km was established here, complete with deep, wide ditches. Around 1800, the notorious 'gang of Cartouche and the binders of Pijpelheide' hid in the forests. The reference 'binders' comes from their torture practice of binding the victims' feet and burning them. This is how they discovered the hiding place of money and other valuables. Due to the proximity of the station in Booischot, many more residents came to Pijpelheide in the 19th century, and it became an independent parish in 1875.
