"As news I have nothing, except a four-page letter from the Bomb, to say that he is going through Flanders, and will be at Ghent on the 31st of Aug., and if I can receive him. I of course answered in the affirmative, although I am reluctant to leave my estate Meerendre to serve as a cicerone in Ghent for the Bomb 'who wants to see everything: churches, chapels, museums, factories, beguinages, etc.'
We'll be allowed to walk to see all that! Anyway, I will draw up a plan in advance, which will determine the walk at the best, and that the Bom will perhaps give a more limited idea of Ghent, but will still be good for my legs. I will show him the beguinages and a few churches. But I have informed him from now on that the museums and factories are closed on Mondays, (that is also true) and that he will therefore have to satisfy his curiosity with the one factory that I will 'maybe' be able to show him."
