Poekebeek route

Your companion for today, the Poekebeek, guides you through a flat but diverse landscape around Poeke in East Flanders and Ruiselede in West Flanders. By studying the stream and its tributaries along the way, their course and their place in the landscape, you can gather some interesting information that will also be useful to you elsewhere. For example, you will notice that the water of the relatively small Poekebeek was enough to keep the moats of Poeke Castle filled and thus contribute to the castle's defense.
Already in the Middle Ages, the castle played an important strategic role, which faded over the centuries. The most legendary figure we meet along the way is undoubtedly Briek Schotte. The route takes you through the border region of East and West Flanders, but you actually don’t notice any differences between the two.
