Tervuren Arboretum: an exploration

The ARBORETUM DE TERVUREN is located on the edge of the Sonian Forest (east of Brussels), in the municipality of Tervuren and the municipality of Jesus-Eik (Overijse). The arboretum covers an area of about 100 hectares and was established in 1902 under the direction of Professor Charles Bommer at the request of King Leopold II.

It has been planted with more than 460 different tree species from various forest landscapes, mainly from the Northern Hemisphere. There are forests from the New World (North and South America) and the Old World (Europe and Asia). The arboretum offers many opportunities for walks. American redwoods (giant sequoia) and Araucarias (snake or monkey tree) are a real eye-catcher.

It is divided into 40 zones, numbered from 1 to 40, and some zones are subdivided into ABCDEs.
