Description by the author

With its 125 kilometres, the Vennbahn is one of the longest disused railway cycle routes in Europe, stretching from Aachen to Troisvierges in the north of Luxembourg, with the unique Hohes Venn upland moors in between.
It is a true symbol for a part of Europe with a tumultuous history. Originally a link between the coal mining areas in the north and steelworks in the south, and then an artery in the conflict zone in the two World Wars before becoming disused and forgotten, it now brings new life to the cross-border region. It crosses borders in the true sense of the word, since the cycle path criss-crosses Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg more than a dozen times.
The route travels through varied natural landscapes, from the Monschauer Heckenland region with its hedges and the moors of the Hohes Venn, or high fen, through the original Our river valley and the gardens around Troisvierges.
Cycling in the Eifel-Ardennes region with border country atmosphere!
