Routing Walk - shortest, Walking - junctions

At the start, the Sint-Machutuskerk, there are a number of free parking spaces. This route is part of the hiking network of Heuvelland.
Sturdy hiking shoes may be advisable. This walk is of course related to WW-I and you will visit some quiet witnesses of this.
So take a moment to stand still and imagine, if that is even possible, what it must have been like for the soldiers. It certainly was not as peaceful as during your walk.
You start the walk at the church by entering Wulvergemstraat. The post at junction 20 indicates 'detour'. This is the one you should follow. Normally, you would walk through the meadows a little further on, but the province is still negotiating with the farmer whether they may continue through his fields.

We did the walk in January. It was very wet and muddy. There was quite a bit of mud on the dirt roads, so definitely appropriate footwear! Especially the path around the Pool of Peace was very muddy. We walked a bit through the adjacent field because it was really unmanageable.
I also want to mention that there are no benches along the way where you can enjoy a picnic. There is only one at the very end along the pilgrimage path. In January, however, this was very green and wet and not really suitable at that time.

However, the walk is very beautiful and you get a stunning view of nature. At the highest point, you can even see the typical French spire church towers in the distance. Do keep in mind that in chilly weather and quite a bit of wind, it can become a 'cool walk'. So don't just keep an eye on your shoes but also on your clothing.
