Description by the author

The red route is a top walk for brisk walkers, where you pass one of the most beautiful, unexpected landscapes of the Lage Kempen.
A pond that emerges from the forest, a beautiful heathland, high dunes, an architecturally high-quality footbridge over the canal,... Don't forget to climb the unique watchtower and reward yourself with a beautiful view over Bosland!

Anyone who comes here for a walk will feel like they are in the desert ... The Sahara was voted the most beautiful hike in the country in 2018 with good reason! The large, clear blue lake pops up like a mirage in the sandy plain. The fresh water attracts plenty of water birds. The surrounding coniferous forests and some architectural masterpieces in the area make this a very special walk. Be sure to climb the unique lookout tower for a beautiful view over Bosland National Park. For children, there is a mysterious play forest with natural play elements made of willow branches, made by artist Will Beckers.

Our tips:

Bring a picnic and have lunch at the playful picnic tables. Zeno Sand Runner Beetle takes the children on a journey of discovery in the sand!

Between 15 March and 15 October, you can borrow a free hammock at the desk of event hall De Soeverein: hang it on the tree and relax!

Tip with children! Treasure hunters can let off steam here, there are no less than two treasure hunts in the area!

Captain Grain's treasure hunt. For € 6 you can buy the treasure hunt of Kapitein Korrel together with those of Bostrol Bobl (Resterheide), Wenke Wortel (Heesakkerpark) and Tommy Twijgman (In den Brand). You get the four booklets full of adventure, a compass and Bosland pencil. And, of course, the key to the treasure chests! This tour starts at the starting point at De Soeverein.
More information about Kapitein Korrel can be found on www.nationaalparkbosland.be and at www.visitlommel.be.

In search of King Lion's treasure, this tour is free to enter. You can choose between a short trip of 3.5 km that is suitable for strollers or the longer adventure tour of 7.8 km. The treasure hunt starts at the Lossingsweg gravel car park (near the canal).
More information about King Lion can be found on the www.visitlommel.be website.
