Description by the author

This is a strikingly beautiful walk through the landscape of Wet Haspengouw: meadows, fields, and poplars. We balance on the edge of dry and wet. During a wet spring, it may become a bit difficult at the Grazenwinning and the Grazenmolen. The walk is definitely worthwhile in spring when apples and pears are in bloom. But exceptionally fascinating are the places with a historical story. You will be amazed by the goat riders of the Grazenmolen and the mischievous abbess Margaretha of Austria in the abbey of Oriënten.

To be honest, until recently we hardly knew where Grazen was, let alone that we had any notion of what there was to see. The village is located at the extreme eastern edge of Hageland. An investigative look at the map immediately shows us that Grazen is ‘across the Gete’, nestled against the border with Limburg and that Sint-Truiden is just a fifteen-minute drive further. Sufficient signals to make us wonder if this is indeed a Hageland village. While searching for documentation about the village, it became clear to us: Grazen is a border case. Yes, historically the village once belonged to the Land of Loon, the regional language of the inhabitants is Limburgish, and geographically this patch of land belongs to Wet Haspengouw. And in church terms, the parish has been moved back and forth several times.

We depart from the village square: Vijverstraat 37A, 3450 Grazen. There is certainly enough space to park your car here.
Reaching the place by public transport is possible, but not very simple.

We do not have any catering in the village, but there are some cafés in nearby Geetbets. There you can enjoy the local regional beer Tripe Treke or Brinks. And there is a bakery for speculaas, produced by an internationally renowned baker.
