Train walker Alken - Hasselt

I admit that it is not the best train step I have ever made, but still...

The first 12 km mainly run through the orchards, mostly pears and cherries, making it a beautiful sight especially during the flowering period. It is mostly unpaved, but that has a downside. Because there is a lot of passage on the ground and grass strips by tractors, the paths will be muddy after a period of heavy rain.

The section that follows is for the more seasoned hiker. A walking path along the edges of a newly planted forest. The paths are not part of a local walking route or the junction network, which means there is very little traffic. You will have to walk through tall grass, and local farmers have taken over the "path" here and there. There is a high chance of wet feet. However, during my passage there, I encountered several deer, hares, pheasants, and even a few partridges. You can skip this section from km 12.5 to 14.3 by walking around the corner. Further along the route, there is a section through the nature reserve "Tommelen." This part can also be wet, but it can be easily skipped as well.
