Vossem-Zoniën-Red Monastery-Jesus Oak

From the village square of Vossem, we embark on a grand Zoniënwald tour. Along the small stream "Voer," we reach the large park of Tervuren with its sparkling ponds and countless waterfowl. We pass the beautiful French garden, which adds extra charm to the Africa Museum. After the lovely old village center of Tervuren, we approach the Zoniënwald, undoubtedly the most beautiful beech forest in Belgium. It is now a large hiking forest but was, in earlier centuries, an exquisite hunting grounds for dukes and kings. We walk as far as Oudergem (Brussels region) and within the walls of the recently restored site "Rood Klooster," which was founded in 1368 as an Augustinian priory in the Zoniënwald. Within these walls, there is also a much-visited tavern. After a switch between wide forest paths and narrow stream valleys, we reach the fashionable Jezus-Eik, where the many taverns and cafés invite us for a well-deserved break. Through a section of the Royal Walk, the Capuchin portal, and a corner of the park of Tervuren, we arrive at the rural village of "Ten Hertswegen," where we take a country path that rewards us with magnificent views over the wine region and the Dijleland.
