Club ride: A-la-frontiers - date 2024 - departure 11 am.

Ride master: Roel Westhovens

The planning was suddenly thrown into disarray, and we were presented with the ride from ride master Roel as an unexpected gift.

After the briefing, we started our wasps and rode towards the Bloemenwijk, located by the lock of Kwaadmechelen, where we crossed the Albertkanaal. Shortly afterwards, we left the main road and took a right into the winding roads. From that moment on, the real enjoyment began. After a while, we arrived in Meerhout along the Totterpad, which borders the vast Netewoud. We rode on beautiful, familiar roads until we reached the center of Mol, the home base of our ride master. Our impressive group of wasps made a strong impression there.

We kept Sas 7 and Sas 6 to our left and followed the Dessel canal. At the bridge near SCK and Vito, we crossed the canal. Roel, who is rightly nicknamed "The Sandman," led us past the sand extraction of Silbelco, an impressive stop on the route. We also passed the Boerentang, a beautiful location known for its event hall. And that was not all, as this is where the Graspomp trains take place annually.

Our ride master knew this region like the back of his hand! One gem after another passed by us while we cruised along the most beautiful roads and enjoyed the stunning nature. Thus, we reached the famous fish ponds of Goor, a place that every nature lover will appreciate. The fauna and flora were at their best here.

Via Sas 5, we continued towards Postel and turned towards Reuzel, just over the Dutch border. Along the Reuzelse stone, we arrived at Outdoorpark Reuzel, where you can climb and scramble among the trees. Right across from the course, we made our first stop at a lovely large tavern.

We were warmly welcomed and taken to a reserved terrace at the back of the building, secluded in the woods. While the horses were tied to the designated beam, the riders enjoyed a drink at the table with us.

After a short break and quenching our thirst, we continued our route towards Hooge Mierde and crossed the Belgian border again. Shortly thereafter, we rode towards Poppel, the residence of our member Frank Franken. Frank rides an extra 95 kilometers for every club ride to participate and reach our clubhouse. He certainly deserves a medal!

Upon arriving in Weelde, we crossed the border once more and rode to Baarle-Hertog, to return to Belgium via the well-known walk Dodendraad.

Given that the trip took place on a delightfully warm day and we covered quite a few kilometers, our ride master had planned a second stop, where we could enjoy a special ice cream at Het Vaneleke. Be sure to check out their website, as you will be surprised.

Via Merksplas, along Beerse and through the Gielsbos in Vosselaar, we slowly made our way back towards our clubhouse. However, there were still about 54 kilometers to go, but no one regretted participating in this fantastic ride.

And those last 54 kilometers had some surprises in store.

In Kasterlee, Geel Ten Aard, ride master Roel had a very pleasant surprise in store for us. We could quench our thirst for the third time at a terrace near the canal, overlooking the old flower factory and the moored ships and boats. The terrace was specially set up for us and provided a lovely rest period. We saw many satisfied faces!

We quickly covered the last 25 kilometers, after which we could enjoy one more time on the terrace of the Black & White.
