Schaesberg, between Gulp and Geul

This route departs from the holiday homes of the Molen van Medael, with the first destination being the cross that can be seen in the landscape from afar.

The cross is located on the Schaersberg 304 meters above sea level and thus already 105 meters above the starting point after 2 km.

The hill stands alone in the landscape in the extension between two ridges. These two ridges run from north to south and separate the watersheds of the Gulp (to the west) and the Geul (to the east). (1)

The route continues over the ridge towards the north, passing the old railway track (line 38), and we take a detour to return via the Beusdalbos.

To walk as much unpaved as possible, paths have been included that are accessible but not always easy due to overgrowth. A bit of adventure and a chance of wet feet must be accepted. Since there are approximately 211 meters of elevation gain over 11 km, it is not just a quick short walk.
