This summer (2024) Mediahuis is going on a snack tour. Every Saturday we will take you on the Tasty Walking or Cycling Tour through the region.

The Eddy Merckx Cycling Route starts at the cycling café Boerenhof near the church of Meensel and takes you in a loop over the same roads where the young Eddy had his first cycling experience. This sporty route has its own signage. Prepare for some serious calf-burners. A break every now and then is welcome, especially if you can also catch some special sights. Along the way, you'll pass the Castle of Horst and the many fruit and vineyards in the area. The cycling god unveiled his own statue at his birthplace in Tieltsestraat in October 2015. Bent over his handlebars, eyes focused ahead, cheering supporters. As he is etched in our collective memory.

There is also a version of 26 km. This one follows the cycling network. The starting point is the same as the long version, but you will follow these junctions: 77 - 23 - 96 - 97 - 74 - 73 - 95 - 47 - 76 - 77.
