Did you know that Philip the Bold, the Burgundian unexpectedly died in Halle? He passed away on April 27, 1404. However, the sudden death of Philip the Bold brought financial problems. The duke, in fact, did not have enough money with him to cover the ongoing expenses. His sons had to pawn silverware, and his widow Margaret shamefacedly placed her purse, her keyring, and her belt on the coffin, a symbolic gesture renouncing her claims to his earthly possessions. Ultimately, the Carthusians of Herne were ready to provide a garment in which Philip wanted to be buried.

After his death, his body was transported to Brussels, where it was prepared and embalmed for several weeks. Subsequently, the body of Philip the Bold, founder of the Burgundian Valois dynasty and one of the most powerful rulers of France, was buried in the crypt of the Carthusian monastery of Champmol.
