Geographical Arboretum Tervuren: the Blue Walk, West of North America

The Geographical Arboretum of Tervuren is located on the edge of the Woluwé Forest (East of Brussels), in the municipality of Tervuren and the municipality of Jezus-Eik (Overijse). The arboretum covers an area of about 100 hectares and was established in 1902 under the direction of Professor Charles Bommer at the request of King Leopold II.

The arboretum has been planted with more than 460 different tree species from various forest landscapes, mainly from the Northern Hemisphere. There are forests of the New World (North America and South America) and the Old World (Europe and Asia). The arboretum offers many opportunities for walks. The absolute eye-catchers are the American sequoias (giant redwoods) and araucarias (monkey puzzle trees).

Here we describe the walk through parts 1 to 9 (West of North America) and part 10 (South America: Chile and Argentina). The route follows the Blue Walk. Conifers dominate in these parts. The route data provides the location of some trees, including the monkey puzzle tree and the giant redwood.
