'Cycling through the trees' in the Bosland National Park

'Cycling through the trees' in the Bosland National Park is located at Node 272 of the cycling network in the nature reserve of Pijnven, which in turn is part of the dense forest landscape of the Bosland National Park.

A cycling path with respect for the forest

The posts supporting the cycling path symbolize the straight trunks of the pine trees of the forest in which it is located. This ensures that the construction blends nicely into the surroundings. The forests of Pijnven mainly consist of conifers that were planted decades ago for the production of mining timber. However, due to the closure of the Limburg coal mines, these trees were never cut down.

We are currently improving this situation with a tailored forest management plan. Smaller native trees in the understory of the forest are getting more space and light to grow. The fallen trees have received a second life in the pavilion at the entrance of 'Cycling through the trees' in the Bosland National Park. The pavilion serves as a rest and information point for cyclists and hikers.

'Cycling through the trees' in the Bosland National Park is a project by Visit Limburg, in collaboration with the Province of Limburg, LSM, Tourism Flanders, the municipality of Hechtel-Eksel, Nature and Forest, as well as the Bosland National Park.
