The source in the Hornebos is a tongue twister: the Peterkerebrukensloop. It is one of the assets of this striking oasis in the agricultural area of South Limburg, which borders the language boundary. The former castle estate (80 hectares) has a rich variety of deciduous trees (oak, cherry, ash). Some of them were newly planted since 1985, when Nature & Forest tackled the moist swamp forest. Today, it is the habitat of many birds, such as tits, finches, and woodpeckers. Sometimes there are also birds of prey. It's also nice that you visit a plateau with a view over 'dry Haspengouw'. If you see several trees in unhealthy condition, know that the forest is suffering from an acute need for groundwater, which is being drained to provide relief elsewhere. A walk that also makes you reflect.
