A circular walk in Zonnebeke that begins in the castle park by the Passchendaele Museum.
Like the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, this museum is also entirely dedicated to the First World War, with a strong focus on the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917.
The museum is located in a castle built in the Norman style, constructed here after the First World War. We walk through the beautiful castle park and discover seven small gardens (Memorial Gardens) that refer to the key countries involved in the war. Afterward, we hike along largely semi-solid paths towards the Peace Forest (with a Peace Monument) and then to the Reutel Forest. Here, French and German soldiers were only 40 meters apart during the winter of 1914-1915. We then walk through the beautiful Polygon Forest, one of the oldest forest areas in our country. However, the forest was right on the front line and was completely destroyed between 1914-1918. We encounter various military cemeteries and war memorials there.
