The 12 km walk starts at the Boembeke mill (Boembekemolen) visitor center of Natuurpunt, one of the five watermills along the Zwalm. Here, the Mijnwerkerspad – a former railway track converted into a cycling and walking path – crosses the Zwalm.
The route takes you through the Middle Course of the Zwalm (Middenloop Zwalm) nature reserve, specifically the Steenbergse Bossen and Boterhoek areas, and includes a brief section of the Mijnwerkerspad.
